An bite splint is a treatment method designed to protect teeth from excessive wear,
especially in people suffering from bruxism/teeth grinding, i.e. involuntary grinding of
teeth, which occurs when a person clenches their teeth for no functional reason, e.g. at
night while sleeping.
Teeth grinding can lead to serious problems such as tooth wear and cracks tooth enamel, as
as well as pain and discomfort in the jaw. Bite splints act as a protective barrier between the
upper and lower jaws, thus absorbing the stresses caused by grinding teeth. This helps
prevent further wear and reduce the risk of damage to tooth structure.
Bite splints also reduce pain and muscle tension that can occur as a result of grinding teeth.
